The Aberfeldy distillery was founded in 1896 by John and Tommy Dewar.
At the beginning the Aberfeldy distillery was founded by the father of John and Tommy Dewar but they make the company one of the most successful in the history of whisky.
After their father had died in 1880, the two brothers divided the responsabilities into an effect way: John Alexander was responsible for the blending , while Tommy took care of the sales.
The Aberfeldy distillery is situated in Southern Highlands and for the production of its whisky the Aberfeldy distillery uses the water of Tay river, which flows in front of the Aberfeldy distillery .
The warehauses of Aberfeldy distillery are made in old brick and for the maturation of its whisky the Aberfeldy distillery uses ex-Bourbon casks.
In fact the whisky has a rich cereal character that frequently shows notes of biscuits, citrus and nuttiness.
Moreover it has used its floor maltings until 1972 and after that, the Aberfeldy distillery buys the malt.
Aberfeldy distillery has created a visitor center in 2000 and the Aberfeldy distillery offers several tours in order to the visitors could find the right one for them.

- 1972 Reconstruction took place, the floor maltings was closed and two stills were increase to four.
- 1991 The first official bottling is a 15 year old in the Flora & Fauna series.
- 2000 A visitor center was opened in Aberfeldy distillery and a 25 year old was released.
- 2005 A 21 year old was launched replacing the 25 year old.
- 2009 Two 18 year old single casks were released.
- 2010 A 19 year old single cask, exclusive to France, was launched
- 2011 A 14 year old single cask was released.
- 2014 The Whole range was revamped and an 18 year old for duty free was released.
- 2015 A 15 year old was released .
The Aberfeldy distillery is equipped with a 7.5 ton stainless steel mash tun, eight washbacks made of Siberian larch and three made of stainless steel and four stills.
The stills have a medium long necks and a big body but they haven’t a reflux bowl.
