Continuing the Bn series’s non-traditional approach to whisky from this distillery, Bn2 takes Bn1’s heavy peat and swaps it for gentle smoke and fruity notes. Matured in ex-bourbon casks, the fruit comes predominantly from the spirit, showing a different aspect of the distillery.
Cask details: distillates from the mid 1990’s matured in refill hogheads.
Nose: fruity, with tropical notes complemented by peach, grapefruit and a wisp of soft smoke.
Palate: the fruity character continues into the palate, with peach joined by orange and a backbone of smoky malt. Water adds a splash of seaside character and reveals earthy peat.
Finish: long and warming, with spiced orange zest becoming bittersweet marmalade.
