CAPERDONICH

CAPERDONICH

Caperdonich distillery was rebuilt in 1965 from the remnants of an original distillery on the site which closed in 1902. Known colloquially as 'Glen Grant 2' and designed as a blending workhorse. The style in the 1960s-70s was actually quite consistent with Glen Grant of the same era; bags of wax, honey, stone and green fruits and elegant spicy complexity. The best examples from this era are by Duuncan Taylor, although many smaller indy bottlers and clubs managed to get some excellent, well-aged bottlings as well. The 1972s are generally considered the best. Latter vintages can be excellent, very classically Speyside in style, if not quite as luscious as the 60s/70s vintages. Bottlers such as Cadenheads and Signatory had some excellent examples.
